This name most often includes investments that are not so common on a global scale (among the usual are financial instruments such as stocks, bonds, cash and cash equivalents, derivatives and similar). These most often include:
- Real estate
- Investments in private or start-up companies
- Raw materials (gold, oil, wheat, coffee, etc.)
- Art (paintings, sculptures)
- Collectibles (classic cars, rare books, items owned or autographed by celebrities, etc.)
- Cryptocurrencies
Alternative investments often have limited liquidity and their valuation can be quite subjective in some cases. In some cases, they also require specific storage to provide them with maximum potential for future capital gains.
